Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands
The 18th season of the popular reality adventure show Survivor was launched on 12th February, 2009 and named Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands and as the name suggests it was all shot in the micro region of Jalapão, in Tocantins, Brazil.
The process of casting for this season kick started from 15th July, 2008 onwards and was completed by September of 2008. Subsequently the show was canned in between October and December, 2008. The eighteenth season happens to be the first ever in the history of the show, to have invited applications from people below the age of 21 as well, except in few states like Washington, D.C. and Mississippi.
As it usually happens, all the 16 participants that were chosen for the 39 day adventure, at first were put into two tribes namely: Jalapao (red) and Timbira (black) and later merged again into a single tribe named Forza (green). The Exile Island came back too with some fresh twists like two castaways being exiled on the isolated Island instead of one. Here both had chose one from the two urns in front of them. While one urn was empty, the other had a provision to enable enrolment into the opponent tribe and also a hint regarding the Hidden Immunity Idol.
The season finale happened after 13 episodes on 17th May, 2009 and James “J.T.” Thomas, Jr. was crowned the Sole Survivor, trouncing the runner up Stephan Fishback by an undivided vote of 7-0. He gained the fans approval as well, as he got the title of “Sprint’s Player of the Season”, defeating Sierra Reed and Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George.
