Survivor Season 4
The fourth season of the super - hit CBS, reality TV game show Survivor, was named as Survivor: Marquesas and Jeff Probst was the host of this season as well. The season was broadcasted from 28th February 2002, up till 19th May, 2002, totaling thirteen episodes on all, along with a mid - season special recap, and also a live interview conducted by Rosie O’Donnell, after the season finale.
The title of the Sole Survivor was won by office manager, Vecepia Towery who defeated student Neleh Dennis by a very narrow margin of 4-3 votes. The two tribes in which the players were initially grouped were named Maraamu (Meaning ‘Southern Wind’ in Marquesan) and Rotu (Meaning ‘Rain’ in Marquesan). Later, as the season progressed, these tribes were amalgamated to form a new tribe which was named Soliantu tribe on the suggestion of Rob and Kathy who made up this word and gave it the meaning, “Sacred Allegiance to the Sun.”
Earlier, Jordan was decided as the location for the show, with the Marquesas Islands chosen a back up in case of contingency. But after the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, the situation and political conditions were not right to shoot a season in the Middle East. The shooting happened for approx thirty nine days, between 12th November, 2001 and 21st December, 2001 at Nuka Hiva, Marquesas Islands.[Read More..]
