Season Seventeen Survivor: Gabon – Earth’s Last Eden

Season 17 of the reality TV series, Survivor, named Survivor: Gabon - Earth’s Last Eden premièred on 25th September, 2008 with back-to-back two episodes.

After calling on application in January, 2008, the producers short listed 800 applicants in March. The list was further shortened after interviews to 48 semi-finalists. Then from these 48, 18 contestants were picked out for the show. This season was the first season of the Survivor to be shot in high definition, with the help of Sony XDCAMS.

This season also happens to be the second one to be shot in Kenya. The season is believed to have been shot near the coastal towns of Ekwata and Nyonie in the Wonga-Wongue Presidential Reserve, Estuaire, Gabon for about thirty nine days.

The contestants have been divided into three tribes this season, Fang (Tribe color: red), Kota (Tribe color: yellow) and Nobag (Tribe color: blue). While Jessica Kiper was sent to the exile island, Matty actually found the hidden idol and even used it in the Tribal Council. The rewards that the contestants received in the due course of the competition were: An extra bag of corn and beans, Tribal Immunity and flint, Tribal Immunity and fishing gear (episode 1, 2), Blankets, a hammock, pillows, and a mat (episode 3) An herb garden, salt, oil, chili sauce, and all fruit collected from the challenge (episode 5), Croissants, fruit tarts, chocolate éclairs, coffee, and tea (episode 6), A helicopter ride to a picnic (episode 7), An overnight trip to a Gabonese village (episode 9), A video from their loved one, pizza, beer, and brownies. Not announced at the challenge was an in-person visit from their loved one (episode 11), An overnight helicopter trip to a gorilla sanctuary in Loango National Park, a meal, a shower, and a bed to sleep in (episode 12).
The Survivor Auction was held on episode 10 of the season. Also there was no reward challenge in episode 4 because of tribal switch in episode 8 and 13 also no reward challenge was held.

The winner of the million dollar prize this season is Bob Crowley, the fifty seven year old physics teacher from Maine. The runner ups are Susie Smith and Jessica “Sugar” Kiper, the vote tally being 4-3-0.

The season concluded on 14th December, 2008 with total fourteen episodes aired. The next, eighteenth seasoned, which has been named Survivor: Tocantins - The Brazilian Highlands will be premiered on 12th Feburary, 2009.
