Show Summary

In the show around sixteen to twenty strangers are isolated in a remote area, after being grouped into two to four tribes. They are then provided with certain basic things like a pot, machete etc. Then the tribes are to build shelters, and look for food from what is available near them. Each tribe has a significant name, color, flags etc.

A contestant is also given a buff which he/she can use for various purposes like a head band or an arm band or a bow tie. This buff, has to worn by the contestants at all time, for the convenience of the audience to distinguish the tribe of the contestant.

As the competition progresses, player are required to individually or as tribe face challenges. These challenges are generally made according to the theme of the season and incorporate problem solving, endurance, dexterity, will power and team work. For example, a common challenge is where the players have to collect puzzle pieces through an obstacle race and then piece them together very fast. Then there are quizzes, gross food challenges, ‘Survivor Auctions‘ [where players bid against each other for certain advantages], challenge to win a car etc.
The notification for a challenge is left near the camp of the tribes and is known as treemail. A treemail, in rhymes, gives the players hints about the challenge in order to help them prepare for it.

The challenges are of two types, Immunity and Reward challenges. While in Reward Challenges the contestants strive for things which would make their stay more comfortable whereas in the Immunity Challenges, the players struggle for immunity from elimination.

In the competitions where there are more than two tribes, they are merged later following around one to four tribal councils. In some cases a Tribe Switch procedure is also carried out where members are exchanged around. When there are eight to ten players left, the tribes are merged and individual challenges are held.
There is also a concept of hidden community idols in the competition. These are small objects hidden near the camping locations and hints are given to a player to find it. This comes handy particularly at the Tribal Council for voting or bargaining purposes.

Exile Island is a small place far from the camping area, cut off for a single contestant to stay for a day. This person is chosen by a winning or losing tribe or an individual. How ever, lack of proper food and water, and distance from the action grounds can make the contestant week and that is the prime purpose of sending off the contestant to the Island.

At the end of each episode a Tribal Council is organized where one player is voted out by the other tribe members. If a player has won immunity, he/she can transfer it to anyone they want and who ever has the immunity cannot be voted out.

The players then vote secretly, explaining their reasons for voting a person out. The persona getting the maximum number of votes is asked to leave the show.

The eliminated contestants do not leave the show but for the jury to determine the winner of the game. The jury is not allowed to interact with the players or other members till the end of the game. They just observe the voting process in the Tribal Council and form their opinions.

The game ends with a fulfilling meal for the players who have reached the last round. The Last immunity challenge is an extremely difficult one, perhaps the most difficult in the whole competition. Also in the end, the players give an ode to the players that have been eliminated before them.

On the final Tribal Council, each surviving player is asked to make a statement in front of the jury after which the jury votes and the winner is declared.

The Sole Survivor achieves a cash prize of $1,000,000, and a car by the sponsors of the show.
